Frequently asked questions

Why can't I rely on the school system to teach my child to read?

In 2022, the Nation's Report Card found that over two-thirds (69%) of fourth-grade students were not reading at a proficient level.  That means that if you wait for the schools to teach your child to read, you have a 1 in 3 chance that your child will learn to be a good reader.  If you are not one of the lucky ones, it will cost you thousands of dollars in remediation and tutoring and your child will still be on a trajectory of reading failure and low self-esteem.

What if I am not confident in my ability to teach my young child to read?

Have no fear.  You need very little knowledge in reading and grammar yourself to teach your young child.  Our reading materials are self-explanatory.  All you have to do is take some time every day to sit down and read with your child.

What if I have very little time or money to invest in my child's reading?

This is something that you CANNOT afford to delay or ignore.  You need to make time.  Your child's time to learn language is limited and the prime language development wanes and ends around age 6.  Please make this a priority for your child!

I can't get my child to sit still for anything, much less reading.  How can they learn to read?

Young, busy children sometimes don't want to hold still for long.  That's why this method relies on short but consistent exposure to written words that even busy children can absorb.

Isn't Phonics the best method to teach a child to read?

Not for young children. Phonics is an analytical way to look at reading and children do not develop analytical skills until after the age of 7.  Unfortunately, there are NO OTHER READING PROGRAMS out there that will help a young child learn to read without using phonics.

If this reading method is so great, why did the schools abandon it?

New movements in the 1960's national school system felt that controlled vocabulary was just memorization, and so they moved to a phonics-based method.  However, they did not recognize the brain's ability in young children to sort information.  By the time a child is in 2nd grade, phonics is a great method to help a struggling reader because the language center in the child's brain is finished forming.  But before then, exposing children to the whole word is the finest method to learn reading.

My child has a language delay and struggles to talk.  Can they still learn to read?

Absolutely.  Many language delays come because of a challenge with the auditory system.  If you can get language into your child's brain through their visual system, you can access their language development in a VERY positive way.
