Who Am I??
I am just a mom who was raised by two baby boomer elementary educators. I learned to read early because my parents had the outdated readers from the 1950's in our home. These readers used a controlled vocabulary method to teach reading one word at a time. After receiving a degree in Education myself, I had children of my own and determined to teach them to read the same way that I had learned. And I had NO TROUBLE. That's because, through my classes in Human Development and Child Psychology, I had learned the secret about language developmental stages. If a child is exposed to enough language, they will just absorb it until they turn 6, and reading is a VISUAL LANGUAGE. Learning in this way makes a child an intuitive reader. Their brain learns phonics without being told. They never have to sound out a word. They read ahead of grade level before they even get to school, and all the teachers think they are gifted. They aren't. Any child who can learn to TALK, can learn to READ.
